Hi, my name is Meredith Lee. My husband David and I have not been affected by Covid19 as much as others. Since we both work in essential services, we have had to work throughout this shutdown. David has had more down time and will do all the errands etc. My job has ramped up, working longer hours and harder than before this crisis. To help me with this added stress I have posted a prayer on my office
wall and the Bible quote 1 Peter 5:7 “Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.” It calms and comforts me.
My husband and I also live very busy lives. David bowls and is busy with 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. I try to visit my Mom in the nursing home almost every night. Then the self-isolation.
I think this is the first time in as long as I remember that we come home from work every night and stay home. At first it felt like I was forgetting to do something, like a nagging feeling. Then you get into your new routine. We started watching mass every night after dinner. This led to watching Fulton Sheen sermons, and then Christian documentaries and movies. We love our evening walks. We are really enjoying our down time together.
All the things we took for granted are gone. Going to church. Visiting family. The worst was not being able to care for my Mom in the nursing home.
I realize that we do not need things as much as we need to see our family. Not seeing your children and grandchild for weeks is very painful. Facetime etc is great, but nothing beats a nice big hug. So we started to visit our granddaughter. She is inside her house with the window open and we are on the
front lawn “playing”. I am sure the neighbours have delighted seeing us dancing and prancing around.
I did not realize how much I would miss going to mass, receiving the Eucharist and we truly miss our
church family.
Once our lives get back to the new normal, I hope we remember the lessons we learnt during this time.
Not get so busy and understand how blessed we are for those simple things in life that we missed so much while isolated.
One of my favourite authors, Corrine ten Boom says “When the train goes through a tunnel and the world gets dark, do you jump out? Of course not. You sit still and trust the engineer to get you through”
God Bless, stay safe and healthy.
