Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.'
When he had said this, he breathed on them and
said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them;
if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’
We are all in need of forgiveness. None of us are perfect but in Jesus all of us are forgiven, if only we would be courageous enough to acknowledge it. Why would Jesus become human if not to reunite us to the love of his Father through the gift of reconciliation. We are glad that you would consider this gift of God’s love for your child’s faith life.
What can you expect from us?
In preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, our Coordinator of Youth Ministry will approach our parish schools and the parish community with information regarding the registration of your child for the celebration of the sacrament. The celebration of the first reconciliation usually occurs when the child is in grade two. However, if for whatever reason your child did not make his or her first reconciliation in Grade two we would be willing to accommodate their various needs.
In addition to the registration, in conjunction with our area schools and you, their first teachers in the way of faith, we will provide meaningful retreat experiences that will help your child understand and appreciate the amazing gift of God’s unconditional love.
What do we expect from you?
Like any good habits, the best habits are learned at home. We would hope that if this sacrament is important for your child that it would be important for you. As a parish family we rely on the support given to the child by you their parent. We would hope that active participation in the life of our parish family would assist and encourage the faith development of your child.
Having completed various days of prayer it is our expectation that your child and your family would set an appointment for your child’s first reconciliation experience. This is usually done in the first part of Advent. As always please feel free to contact the parish office at any time with any questions that you may have.
